Humility in “Meditations” of Saint Ursula Ledóchowska in the Light of “Spiritual Exercises” of Saint Ignatius of Loyola

Abstract

The article presents the concept of humility in Meditations of St. Ursula Ledóchowska. Mother Ledóchowska, whose spirituality has been influenced by Jesuits, uses the method of meditation and evangelical contemplation created by Saint Ignatius. The essence of humility – according to the author of Meditations – is to understand the truth about God, the Creator, and about the nothingness of the human being – the creation. Saint Ursula presents various aspects of this virtue, which are also compatible with the respective four weeks of Ignatian exercises. The meditations of Saint Ursula can be completely understood only in the context of the desire to follow Jesus in His humiliation.
